Dermal Fillers In London

As our skin ages, the structural elements that help it keep youthful begin to deteriorate and break down. It is common to see volume loss, otherwise known as medical lipoatrophy, which often causes a flattening in the cheeks, hollowing under the eyes and sometimes emergence of lines particularly around the nose, lips, and chin, often referred to as ‘smile lines’. Dermal fillers are a proven way to soften smile lines and replenish lost volume in each region, with instant results. Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring molecule found in human skin, is used to make dermal fillers. Natural dermal fillers are used instead of animal-based fillers and are delivered in the form of a sterile gel.

How Dermal Fillers Work

As we age, the hyaluronic acid in our skin breaks down and so the use of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can restore the depletions and turn back the hands of time. Dermal fillers rejuvenate and add volume to the skin, quickly decreasing the appearance of lines and wrinkles and delivering a natural softer look by increasing the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid. In addition, dermal fillers can also plump up, shape and define lips with immediate results, requiring no recovery time. Depending on the level of treatment, results typically last between 6 – 18 months. If for whatever reason a client decides they no longer want the dermal fillers after treatment has taken place, unlike surgical treatments, this is 100% reversible. The filler can easily be dissolved, allowing the smile line to go back to its original form.

Dermal Fillers Process

The client will have a consultation before the treatment to discuss the intended outcome and the best treatment plan. The procedure entails injecting hyaluronic acid into the region being treated with very thin needles causing minimal pain. Micro cannulas, which are blunt tubes that carry the substance to the appropriate location without the need of needles, are an alternative option – they reduce trauma and the potential of bruising. The treatment begins with a thorough and gentle cleansing of the skin, followed by the application of a numbing lotion to the treatment regions. This is to assure your utmost comfort. The procedure is straight forward and just takes a few minutes. A small needle (or micro cannulas) is used to inject the filler into the targeted locations, effectively and quickly restoring lost volume in the face, renewing the skin, and giving the face a lifted, youthful look.

Both anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers are minimally invasive cosmetic treatments given through injections but they have different purposes. Anti-wrinkle injections temporarily paralyse the muscles that cause fine lines and wrinkles during facial expressions. The result means the fine lines and wrinkles are smoothed or even completely removed. Dermal fillers are injected beneath the surface of the skin to add volume and fullness in areas such as the lips or cheeks. They are also great for filling creases and folds around the mouth. Have a look at our treatments page to see all areas which can be treated with either antiwrinkle injections or dermal fillers.
